Happy Norouz
Happy New Year

In Iranian Language Norouz means New Day and the first day of Norouz is the first day of spring when the rebirth of nature symbolizes a new beginning, when you will see the world has changes its dress and you can be sure that new day has come.
We, Iranian, are lucky people that our year renews by spring and our New Year celebrations, Norouz, begins with spring, when blossoms are everywhere and we can smell their fragrances all over Iran.
Some hours before renewal of the year Iranian spread the Symbolic Cloth of Norouz, HAFT SEEN.
Haft Seen means seven Seens, Seven is a holly number and seen a letter of Persian alphabet (like S).The seven Seens of the traditional cloth are as follows:

1-Sabzeh (green grass) is grown from wheat or lentil to bring bounty and prosperity,
2, 3, 4-Senjed (a special kind of berry) Samanoo (a meal made out of wheat) and Seeb (apple) are all symbols of birth and bounty.
5,6-Serke (vinegar), Seer (garlic) and sometimes Somagh (Sumac) are symbols of cleansing and purifying.
7-Sekke (coin) is to bring prosperity and wealth.
The religious book is another important part of the Haft Seen, Muslims with Quran, and Zoroastians with Avesta.

Members of the family sit around the cloth, waiting for the old year to go and give its place to the new one to welcome the arrival of springtime and to pray for good things to come
